Criticism Is the Thief of Responsibility

You know why scrolling social media is so bad for me?

If I’m honest, it’s not just the distraction.

And it’s not the whole “comparison is the thief of joy” thing either.
For me, it’s this: criticism is the thief of responsibility.

There are so many fucking morons online that it’s almost impossible not to see something and think, what an absolute loser asswipe. We’ve all done it. Eye roll. Comment in your head. Mental takedown.

We’ve all heard the “judge not” line, and yeah, I’m sure there’s a moral reason behind it.
But there’s also a very practical one.

While you’re busy criticizing people you can’t control, you’re not holding yourself accountable, which is the one person you can control.

And look, studies show that you have practically 0 chance of convincing anyone online to change their opinion. In fact, it says arguing solidifies their opinion even more.

Judgment feels productive. It feels smart. It feels superior.

But it’s fake work.

Every minute you spend tearing someone else down in your head is a minute you’re not asking harder questions of yourself. Not fixing your own gaps. Not doing the shit you know you should be doing.

That’s the real danger of being a judgy person.

It’s not that you’re morally bad.

It’s that you’re distracted from responsibility.

And responsibility is where progress actually happens.
